Cookie Policy
This policy explains the cookies and similar browser technologies used on the Clay's Dance Academy website and student portal, and how you can control them.
Last updated: October 2026
What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. This policy also covers localStorage and sessionStorage, similar browser technologies that store small amounts of data locally on your device. None of these technologies can run programmes or carry viruses.
Technologies we use and why
The table below lists every cookie and browser storage entry we have verified in use on this website. We do not use advertising cookies or tracking for marketing purposes.
Strictly necessary
These are essential for the website and student portal to function. They do not require your consent under UK PECR rules, and declining optional analytics does not affect them.
| Technology | Name / Key | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| HTTP cookie | better-auth.session_token (and __Secure- prefixed variants in production) | Keeps parents and students logged in to the Student Portal. Set by BetterAuth, our authentication system. The cookie is HttpOnly (not readable by JavaScript) and is required for the portal to function. Public pages of the website do not set this cookie. | Until you log out, or the session expires on the server |
| localStorage | c2_analytics_consent | Stores your analytics consent choice (accepted or declined) so we do not ask again on every visit. This is a record of your own preference, not tracking data. | 365 days, then you will be asked again |
| sessionStorage | airo-banner-reset | A temporary flag used to prevent the consent banner re-appearing unnecessarily during a single browser session. Contains no personal data. | Cleared when you close the browser tab |
Optional — analytics (requires your consent)
The following technology is only active if you click Accept on our cookie banner. If you click Decline, or withdraw your consent later, it does not collect any data.
| Technology | Provider | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Analytics script | GoDaddy C2 (scc-c2.min.js, served from img1.wsimg.com) | Records which pages are visited and which links or buttons are clicked, so we can understand how visitors use the site. We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes. The script loads on page visit but only collects data after you give consent. | Data is collected only while your consent is active. Withdrawing consent stops future collection. |
Third-party services
Stripe (payment processing)
When a portal user proceeds to checkout for academy merchandise, they are transferred to a payment page hosted by Stripe. Stripe may set its own cookies on their domain to process the payment securely and prevent fraud. Those cookies are set by Stripe, not by us, and are governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy. We do not have access to or control over Stripe's cookies.
GoDaddy Commerce (merchandise basket)
Our merchandise catalogue and basket are powered by GoDaddy Commerce. A cart identifier is stored in your browser's localStorage to maintain your basket between pages. This identifier contains no personal data and is used solely to keep your basket intact during your session.
The Student Portal
The Student Portal is a private, password-protected area of the website accessible to registered parents and students. To use the portal you must log in with an email address and password provided by the academy. Public self-registration is disabled.
When you log in, a session cookie (better-auth.session_token) is set to keep you authenticated. This cookie is strictly necessary — without it the portal cannot verify your identity and will not display protected content. It is removed when you log out or when the session expires.
The portal does not use any additional tracking or analytics technologies beyond those described in this policy. The optional GoDaddy C2 analytics script is subject to the same consent rules inside the portal as on the public website.
For information about how we handle personal data — including information about children and young people — please read our Privacy Policy, available on our Policies page.
Your choices
When you first visit the website, a cookie banner will ask whether you accept optional analytics. You can:
- —Accept — analytics will be active for this visit and future visits for up to 365 days.
- —Decline — no optional analytics data will be collected. The website will work normally.
- —Change your mind — click the link in the footer at any time to reopen the banner and update your choice. Withdrawing consent stops future data collection; it does not affect data already collected.
You can also control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking strictly necessary cookies (such as the session cookie) will prevent the Student Portal from working.
